Abstract The olive value chain is a cornerstone of the socio-cultural, economic, and environmental landscape of the Mediterranean region. The industry is a major source of employment and income in rural communities. In recent years, the sector has undergone significant shifts towards mechanized highly intensive cropping and irrigated systems.
